Hot Temperatures Up To 36 Degrees Not Not Heatwave

Jakarta

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) explained that the hot weather conditions in a number of regions in Indonesia during this week reached a maximum temperature ranging from 33-36.1 degrees Celsius. BMKG said: hot temperature up to 36 degrees Celsius is not due to a heat wave.

“The scorching heat that occurred in the territory of Indonesia was not a heat wave phenomenon. According to WMO (World Meteorological Organization), a heat wave or known as a ‘heatwave’ is a phenomenon of prolonged hot air conditions for 5 days or more in a row where the daily maximum temperature is higher than the average maximum temperature of up to 5°C or more,” said BMKG Deputy for Meteorology Guswanto in a written statement, Sunday (8/5/2022).

According to the BMKG, the phenomenon of heat waves usually occurs in middle-high latitudes such as Europe and America, which is triggered by atmospheric dynamics at middle latitudes. Meanwhile, what is happening in the territory of Indonesia is the phenomenon of hot/hot temperature conditions on a daily variability scale.

According to the BMKG, the phenomenon of hot air temperatures that have occurred during the day so far has been triggered by several things as follows:

1. The apparent position of the sun is now in the northern region of the equator, which indicates that some parts of Indonesia will begin to enter the dry season, where the rate of cloud growth and the phenomenon of rain will be greatly reduced, so that sunny weather in the morning before noon will dominate.
2. The dominance of sunny weather and the low level of virginity can optimize the reception of sunlight on the Earth’s surface, causing the temperature conditions felt by the community to be quite hot during the day.

BMKG is still monitoring hot or hot temperatures in Indonesian territory until mid-May. “We still have to watch out for hot/hot temperatures during the day until mid-May,” he said.

BMKG then appealed to the public to maintain the condition of body stamina and adequate body fluids, especially for residents who are active outside the room during the day. He also advised residents traveling back and forth not to become dehydrated.

“To residents who will travel back and forth so that dehydration, fatigue and other bad effects will not occur,” he said.
