Hoshi’s Cyberbullying Case: Justice Served as Attacker Receives Prison Sentence

Since 2020, Hoshi has been the victim of a massive cyberbullying campaign due to his homosexuality. She had decided to file a complaint and the Paris Criminal Court delivered its verdict on Friday: one of the attackers received a prison sentence. Which is very rare in this kind of case.

She interprets there her title “Love censorship”. A song whose lyrics are about homosexuality and the desire to no longer hide. But also homophobia “Are we ever going to end / With hatred and insults / Will someone come and tell them / That we love each other and it’s not impure”. At the end of her performance, the singer had kissed one of his dancers. Moments later, Hoshi began to receive a torrent of hate messages on social networks. If they haven’t dried up since, the justice has just condemned one of its authors to prison.

“Since 2020, I have been living in hell”

In a letter read by her lawyer during the hearing and published a few hours later on her Instagram account, the singer recounts her terrible situation. “Since 2020, I live in hell. […] Following this service, I received thousands of messages full of insults homophobicof death threats, rape threats and many more. […] I moved because in addition to harassing me, they were trying to find my address.” She then decide to lodge a complaint.

A complaint which resulted, this Friday morning, au trial one person. Indeed, among the six people identified, one only was of age. But the pain of this one takes on a rather novel character. Since the 21-year-old was sentenced to eight months in prison including two months firm. So far, the Instead, the courts favored conditional prison sentences. This will not make up for the three years lost by Hoshi. But this is an important reminder: the cyber harassment (just like homophobia) is a crime, punishable by law.
