With a couple of laps to the finish of a long race at Bergsåker on Tuesday, the horse Hottentoy, with Bo Eklöf in the sulky, began to sway.
The driver then had time to step off the sulky before Hottentoy collapsed on the track.
“It’s very sad”
When trainer Markus Pihlström arrived at the horse, he was already dead.
– He’s been sent for autopsy. It’s just tragic. You feel bad. There was no indication of any disease. It is impossible to answer what it is about. It is very sad, says Pihlström when SportExpressen reaches him.
Six-year-old Hottentoy took five victories in the 30 starts of his career.
The race was interrupted as a result of the incident and was re-run.
