“Harmful content on cigarette can damage lung cells and over time can develop into cancer,” explained Dr. Chin Tan Min, Medical Oncologist at Parkway Cancer Centre, Singapore, in a virtual press conference, Wednesday (12/8/2021).

Doctor Chan added that passive smoking also remains at risk of developing lung cancer. Exposure to Covid-19 infection can also increase the risk for lung cancer patients.

Because the corona virus causes disorders of the respiratory organs, so it can worsen the patient’s condition.

“The growth of cancer cells can also lower the immune system that fights viral infections. In addition, delayed or stopped cancer treatment during a pandemic can also cause a higher risk for patients,” he said.
