Crocodile giants once spread terror in the time when dinosaurs still existed long ago. Scientists call it by the scientific name Sarcosuchus imperator.

But compared to Sarcosuchus imperator, the saltwater crocodile is nothing. It really is a monster with an estimated length of 9.5 to 12 meters. However, actually, this crocodile is also not the largest of its kind.
“There were giant crocodiles that used to live in the Amazon. They went extinct between 5 and 10 million years ago. Maybe they are the largest crocodiles ever known. At the time of Sarcosuchus imperator, there were also other crocodiles that were probably the same size in the sea,” said Dr Mark Young, a paleontologist from the University of Edinburgh.
Sarcosuchus imperator lived about 113 million years ago, during the early Cretaceous period. Most specimens crocodile It is found in the Niger region of West Africa. In the past, they lived with several types of dinosaurs.
They seem to eat anything. “By the time they reach their maximum body size, they will probably eat anything,” said Young.
What prey they eat can not be determined with certainty. However, it is possible that the dinosaurs ate it.
“It’s not really clear whether they caught dinosaurs or just the big fish in the river. It’s possible that when they got big they did both. But when they were young, they ate fish in the river system,” Young said.
No species crocodile modern descendants of Sarcosuchus imperator. Thus, because the branches of the species are different, it is difficult to find a match today.
