Horner: ‘Maybe Red Bull needs this unusual Formula 1 year’ NOW

Christian Horner looks forward with confidence to the long-awaited start of the Formula 1 season in Austria. The Red Bull Racing team boss does not rule out the unusual circumstances for his racing stable.

“It’s been an unusual season, but maybe that’s what we need to take on the challenge with Mercedes,” said Horner on Tuesday looking ahead to the first Grand Prix this weekend.

“I think it will be a fantastic season. Of course the drivers will have to get used to it, but they will not need long. It will be more intense than usual, with a different pressure and dynamism. I have high hopes for our best year since 2013 . “

Seven years ago, Sebastian Vettel captured the last world title on behalf of Red Bull. Since then, third place has been the team’s best performance; Daniel Ricciardo ended up in that place in 2014 and 2016 and Max Verstappen did that last year.

GP Austria times

Horner is very confident in engine update

On Monday it became clear that Red Bull drivers Verstappen and Alexander Albon in Austria have a better engine. During the corona crisis, supplier Honda was able to work a little longer than the competition thanks to Japanese laws and regulations.

“We are now at the start with what would actually be our second engine of the season. A lot of work has been done,” said Horner, who thinks the car itself is better than ever.

“All the updates that were initially planned in Zandvoort, Barcelona and Montreal have already been implemented, plus little things that have become clear in recent times.”
