Munich / Berlin (MH) – The German soprano Marlis Petersen and the Austrian tenor Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke were appointed Bavarian Chamber Singers on Wednesday evening. “Marlis Petersen and Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke have shown a special connection with the Bavarian State Opera for many years. “This award is also an explicit invitation to both of them to come back to Munich as often as possible and as soon as possible.”

The Minister thanked Petrenko and Bachler for their extraordinary commitment. With her, an extraordinary era in the history of the Bavarian State Opera is coming to an end. “With his music, Kirill Petrenko made every performance a feast for the senses. Nikolaus Bachler was the pilot of a long-term artistic high-altitude flight for the Bavarian State Opera, with which it reached spheres that only a few houses penetrate.”

The service title “Bayerischer Kammersängerin” / “Bayerische Kammersängerin” has been awarded by the Bavarian Ministry of Culture since 1955 for outstanding artistic achievements. More than 130 singers have received awards so far, most recently the Slovak tenor Pavol Breslik in June 2021.

In addition to Petrenko and Bachler, the Bavarian State Opera currently has two other honorary members: the former General Music Director Zubin Mehta and former Minister of Art. Hans Zehetmair. Earlier honorary members included Sir Peter Jonas, Wolfgang Sawallisch and August Everding.
