Josef Schlueter has a total of 75 liters of blood <!––> donated from Herbern in over four decades. That is extraordinary – and has now been rewarded accordingly. The loyal visitor to the DRK events received recognition for the 150th blood donation.
The pensioner has been donating blood for around 40 years. Schlüter no longer knows exactly how old he was when the first donation was made. “Phew, that was a while ago. No idea. Back then I always rode my bike from Forsthövel to Herbern to donate blood. That’s how I got out of the farming community, ”says the 73-year-old.
Whether in the old girls’ school, at Tergeist, Bathe, in the auditorium of the Theodor-Fontane-Schule or now in the Jochen-Klepper-Haus on Sotlandstrasse – over the years, Josef Schlüter has visited many places for donations in the village.
What has changed in the past four decades? “Well today, after the blood donation – except in Corona times – there are delicious sandwiches. There used to be cola with brandy. Probably a few more, ”smiles the Herberner. His motivation has remained the same over the years: “I want to help people.”

The next blood donations, for which you can already register online with the German Red Cross (DRK), will take place on January 26, 2021 (Tuesday) and January 27, 2021 (Wednesday) from 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Jochen-Klepper-Haus, Ostlandstrasse , instead of.
