Tegucigalpa, Aug 8 (EFE) .- The Honduran Public Ministry coordinates with Panamanian authorities the restitution of 1.16 million dollars that the businessman Benjamín Bográn, already deceased and implicated in the embezzlement of the Honduran Institute of Social Security (IHSS) , was hiding in a bank in that country, an official source reported on Monday.

In a statement, the Honduran Public Ministry indicated that the Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Organized Crime coordinates with Panama the restitution of money in compliance with a sentence of deprivation of ownership of assets of illicit origin.

He pointed out that the case is part of a set of actions promoted by the Public Ministry for the embezzlement of the Honduran Social Security Institute (IHSS), whose former director Mario Zelaya is in prison in Tegucigalpa with other former officials accused of the millionaire looting, which was discovered in 2014 .

The Domain Deprivation Court ordered the confiscation of almost 26 million lempiras (a little over a million dollars) deposited in a bank account in Panama in the name of Inversiones Naco, whose owner was Bográn, implicated in the millionaire embezzlement of the IHSS , of whose Board of Directors he was a member, added.

The court ruling also covers real estate, whose value exceeds 6 million lempiras (251,313 dollars) and that will be auctioned off, the Public Ministry said.

The recovery process has allowed the financial institution Multibank, from Panama, “to have a cashier’s check ready for a value of more than one million dollars, which should return to Honduras once international legal assistance becomes effective. by the central authority of that nation,” he added.

All the resources obtained in this case will be reintegrated into the coffers of Social Security, emphasized the Honduran Public Ministry.

Bográn, who died last July and was also secretary of the conservative Liberal Party of Honduras, the second opposition force in Parliament, was convicted of improper passive bribery after receiving from the IHSS, as bribes, about 14 million lempiras (about 572,564 Dollars).

The IHSS scandal has affected officials of the last three governments, businessmen, politicians and journalists, among others. EFE
