Every year almost 33,000 new cases of breast cancer are detected in Spain, of which between 5 and 6% present metastases at the time of diagnosis. It is estimated that approximately 30% of women diagnosed at an early stage will have a recurrence of the tumor with metastases years after having completed their first treatment (1,2).
