Cinemas open all over the country. Here in Homburg, too, the Eden cinema will reopen its doors to film fans on Thursday, July 1st. HOMBURG1 spoke to the operator Andreas Simon about what changes compared to “normal” times and what is particularly troubling for the cinema.
Finally enjoy crackling popcorn with friends and family and watch an exciting, romantic or funny film, depending on your taste. This is possible again in Homburg from this Thursday. Then the Eden cinema opens for its guests after a long compulsory break. With one or the other restriction, of course.

Access is only permitted for people who have tested negative, have recovered or have been vaccinated. The contact details must also be given when purchasing a ticket. In addition, a minimum distance of 1.5 meters applies to the space in the cinema. This means: two places must always remain free between individuals or groups. What doesn’t sound like insurmountable hurdles for the individual cinema-goer is a real problem for cinema operator Simon.

“Above all, the minimum distance gives us a lot of trouble,” he explains. “In case of doubt, only a few people can even sit in the cinema.” Because if, for example, only individuals go to a film, the minimum distances ensure that they block a large part of the available seats. In addition, only every second row can be occupied. “So the whole thing is not economical,” says Simon resignedly.
Talks with state politicians have been going on for months so that at least the minimum distances for going to the cinema are relaxed or abolished. It has brought nothing (for the time being). “We’re disappointed that it didn’t work out,” said Simon. After all, in Thuringia, for example, there were tests with full halls that did not show any abnormalities. “Basically, the risk is not very high, because everyone is looking in one direction, there are hardly any discussions and there is also a ventilation system.”
The only consolation: People’s longing for going to the cinema is clearly noticeable. “Right after we released the first films on the Internet, we already received a lot of reservations. Obviously, people have had enough of watching the films on small screens at home in their own four walls. ”Internet reservation is an important point for Simon, because it eliminates some formalities on site. First and foremost, filling out the contact forms on site is a gift for yourself. And you can immerse yourself directly in the selected film.
After all, a visit to the cinema lives not least from its atmosphere. Simon can’t come up with full movie theaters, but at least eating and drinking is allowed on the square. There are no limits to the enjoyment of popcorn and cola.
But what’s actually going on in the Eden cinema from Thursday? There are five films to choose from, so there should be something for every taste. For families with children, “Peter Hase 2” – A rabbit leaves the field “and” 100% wolf “are particularly suitable. “A Quiet Place 2” is all about survival. It gets action-packed with “Godzilla vs. Kong”, while “Catweazle” lends itself to the adventurous. With “The Unholy” there is also a thriller in the program. The best conditions to finally enjoy a visit to the cinema with friends and family again.
