Holstein Kiel has found what it is looking for in its search for a new sports director. Former KSV scout Carsten Wehlmann will succeed Uwe Stöver at the second-place team in the 2nd league, who will be leaving office in the summer.
The Schleswig-Holsteiners announced the 51-year-old’s commitment on Sunday morning. Wehlmann will start working for the Bundesliga promotion candidate immediately and Stöver will accompany the transition process, it was said. In addition to the position of Managing Director of Sports, the Hamburg native will also be Vice President at Holstein.
“Carsten Wehlmann fits Holstein Kiel’s DNA perfectly in terms of personality, skills and his basic attitude. He has also shown in the recent past that he can put together a competitive squad in a strong second league under economically reasonable conditions. We therefore believe that With the signing of Carsten Wehlmann, the club’s chosen course will continue successfully in the future,” explained Supervisory Board Chairman Stefan Tholund.

Wehlmann returns to KSV after six years
Wehlmann, who most recently worked as sporting director at newly promoted Bundesliga club SV Darmstadt 98, is returning to his old place of work. The former keeper worked as chief scout for KSV from 2009 to 2018 and was also goalkeeper coach for the “Storks” from 2010 to 2015.
He didn’t lose sight of the second division club afterward, as the 51-year-old assured: “Of course, I have followed the positive development of Holstein Kiel in the second division in recent years. I am pleased that I can now play an active role in it myself The first thing for me in the coming weeks is to get to know the team, the coaching team, the employees and the wider environment.”
