Hollywood legend Kirk Douglas died at the age of 103 NOW

Legendary actor Kirk Douglas died on Wednesday at the age of 103, confirms his family to American media. His health is said to have deteriorated rapidly lately.

Douglas became known for roles such as Spartacus in the eponymous classic and has been nominated three times for an Oscar in his long career.

“With enormous sadness I can share that Kirk Douglas left us today at the age of 103,” said son Michael. “The world considered him a legend that inspired large numbers of people. I and my brothers Joel and Peter saw him as our father, a wonderful man and a loving grandfather.”

Michael praises the career that his father had. “His legacy to the film industry will affect the next generations.”

Kirk Douglas played in a few smaller Broadway productions until 1941, after which he entered service with the US Navy. After the war, he resumed his film career and received Oscar nominations for contributions to boxing film Champion, the romantic drama The Bad and the Beautiful and his role as Vincent van Gogh in the drama Lust for Live.

However, it was not until 1996 that he could receive the coveted statue, when his entire oeuvre received an honorary Oscar.
