NOS news

Holland Casino is getting more and more visitors, but it is still not as busy as it was before corona. Last year the casino was visited 5.1 million times, an increase of 24 percent compared to last year. Before corona, another million visitors came by.

The state gambling company sees that visitors are spending less and that the average age is rising. In 2018, visitors were on average 46.6 years old, now it is 48.2 years old. As a result, the future of casinos is under pressure.

To attract new players, the company wants to invest in concepts that appeal to new generations. He also strives for more diversity among the employees.

Slots out

Holland Casino is concerned about profit. Salary costs are rising and the company is also spending more money on power. It tries to save energy by, for example, turning off the 6,000 slot machines more often.

Online market share has fallen due to increased competition from foreign gambling companies.

Leading lady Petra de Ruiter warns that the situation is over. “We are dealing with the effects of two years of high inflation, higher costs to continue to comply with stricter laws and regulations, rising labor costs and higher gambling taxes, which means we have to follow a strict course.”

Tax debt

Holland Casino is also struggling with a tax debt of 195 million euros from the time of the crown. More than 50 million will be paid back in 2023.

Last year, a profit of 23.6 million euros was made, almost 6.5 million more than a year before. Almost all of the profit goes to the Dutch State. During corona times, Holland Casino suffered a loss of more than 100 million euros.
