HIV/AIDS Could Be a Time Bomb in Bogor, Lekas Foundation: It’s Scarier Than Covid

TEMPO.CO, Bogor – The Strategic Policy Institute Foundation (Lekas) calls the spread HIV / AIDS which continues to grow every year could become a ticking time bomb in Bogor if left unattended.

The chairman of the Lekas Foundation, Muksin AZ said the data from observations and research from 2015 to 2020 recorded thousands of people in cities and districts Bogor already infected with HIV/AIDS or people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). In Bogor City there are currently around 2,500 cases, while in Bogor Regency there are around 1,700 cases.

“If left unchecked, this could become a ticking time bomb. It’s scarier than Covid,” Muksin told Tempo in his office, Ciawi. Sunday, September 26, 2021.

The transmission of HIV/AIDS can become a ticking time bomb because so far, the education, socialization and prevention of the disease have not been significant. Muksin said the government paid little attention to HIV/AIDS prevention.

“Currently, UN AIDS is paying attention to us through Global Fun in tackling and preventing new PLWHA in Indonesia. In fact, this problem already exists in PP, Presidential Instruction and so on. For the regions, this case has become the Minimum Handling Standard or SPM for regional heads,” said Muksin.

Even more worrying, Lekas’ data shows that HIV/AIDS transmission has reached remote villages. Average PLWHA are people of productive age, i.e. 16 to 35 years.

“This is terrible, imagine that in Bogor there are already junior high school children infected with HIV/AIDS. We did research and mentoring the patient, it turns out that he was exposed to a relationship that is not very controlled, “said Muksin.

To prevent cases of HIV/AIDS transmission, Muksin invites the government and the public to increase their vigilance and take mitigation steps. First, you must know the association of children, especially those whose parents are busy. Second, dare to do HIV tests in health care installations.

“Now in every puskesmas there is a tool to test for HIV/AIDS, I hope people will do the test and the government will aggressively invite and disseminate information. Don’t be ashamed and afraid, because people who are infected can’t be identified or have no symptoms at first,” said Muksin.
