Hamburg 20 minutes with slight benefits

Handball Sport Verein Hamburg started concentrated with a well-disposed Johannes Bitter in goal and after 46 seconds went 1-0 with Niklas Weller leading. After the equalizer, Dominik Axmann and Frederik Bo Andersen scored 3: 1 (3rd) after a parry by Bitter and a consequent counterattack. At this stage, HSV Hamburg fails to pull away, scoring the goal three times. At 2: 4 in the 10th minute, SC DHfK Leipzig scored their first outing. After a missed penalty by Casper Ulrich Mortensen, the hosts equalized to 5: 5 (14th). Weller and Mortensen put Hamburg back in the lead with two goals and 7: 5. After 20 minutes, the visitors made many mistakes, which Leipzig not only used to equalize, but also to bring their first and only advantage to 10: 9 (24) with an empty net. Hamburg returned and took a 13:12 lead in the locker room.

Heartbeat win just two seconds left in the game

The second half remained thrilling as a Hitchcock thriller until the final siren, not for the faint of heart. Leipzig drew after 36 seconds at 13:13 and a game developed on an equal footing in which both teams kept the tension high by losing the ball numerous times. Hamburg failed to gain more than a two-goal lead, but never fell behind. After the hosts scored 18:18 in the 46th minute, the next goal came only with a counterattack for Frederik Bo Andersen’s 19:18 (51st). HSVH made several technical mistakes before taking the lead and were lucky that Leipzig were in no way inferior to them.

In the 49th minute, Leif Tissier collapsed on the run, had to leave the pitch injured and did not return to the game. In this phase Bitter defused a counterattack and thus continued to hold the tie. Outnumbered (Weller was on the bench), Hamburg conceded the draw for 20:20 (54 ‘), but the Hamburg team survived the next double match outnumbered (Dominik Axmann received the penalty once next) with intelligence and patient play. Once again it was Jacob Lassen with a double strike at 22:20 (57th and 59th), who made the alleged preliminary decision.

Burgers during crunch time with a happy ending for themselves

The events are now underway. Leipzig called the last time-out with 77 seconds remaining. The hosts scored 21:22 with a Viggó Kristjánsson penalty with 48 seconds left. Shortly thereafter, Toto Jansen saw his moment come – there were still 27 seconds left – to call the team to caution. Eight seconds before the end of the match, Weller hit the post and in exchange Marino Maric sank the ball into Jogi Bitter’s goal for 22:22. With a quick half, Dani Baijens scored the winning goal with his only goal of 23:22, just two seconds from the final siren. The jubilation among the Hamburgers knew no bounds, everyone stormed the field and congratulated the winner of the match.

Conclusion: Handball Sport Verein Hamburg won their first away game of the season, despite many technical errors and two missed seven meters, only in the final seconds for decisive and quick action after the draw. Behind a compact and flexible backline, Johannes Bitter was in goal at the crucial moment and played his part in the success with nine saves. Do not underestimate the support of Leipzig, who also committed a series of technical errors. All in all the victory was deserved but in the end quite happy.

Handball Sport Verein Hamburg played in the following formation:
Johannes Bitter, Ivan Budalic – Tobias Schimmelbauer, Casper Ulrich Mortensen (5/3), Leif Tissier (1), Jacob Lassen (5), Niklas Weller (6), Dominik Axmann (2), Frederik Bo Andersen (3), Thies Bergemann, Nicolai Theilinger, Thore Feit, Azat Valiullin, Dani Baijens (1)
