Hit by the Covid-19 Pandemic, Lion Air Group Lays 8,000 Employees

TRIBUNNEWS.COM, JAKARTA – PT Lion Mentari Airlines or Lion Air Group took a policy to lay off 35 percent or about 8 thousand of its employees from a total of 23 thousand employees.

Corporate Communications Strategic of Lion Air Group Danang Prihantoro said that the policy of laying off employees was due to conditions company income which is very minimal due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Danang also revealed that passenger drop which impact on company income also a reason Lion Air Group lay off their employees.

“Therefore, within the required period of time, Lion Air Group announced the reduction of the workforce by laying off employees (status not Termination of Employment / Layoffs) according to the workload (load) in each unit, which is approximately a percentage of 25-35 percent of employees from 23,000 employees,” said Danang, Saturday (31/7/2021).

Danang also mentioned that Lion Air Group currently only operates 10 percent of the slots of the total daily frequency with a total of 1,400 flights per day.

“With the reduced frequency of flights, the company’s financial condition has been hit hard. Conditions company income It is also very minimal, while the flight operational costs that must be borne are still quite large,” said Danang.

The decision to lay off the employees, continued Danang, is certainly very difficult. But this step is a form of effective and efficient measure to maintain the company’s business, reduce expenses and restructure the organization.

“Even so, employees who are in a furloughed status, Lion Air Group will try to help provide support for living expenses according to the company’s ability,” said Danang.

  1. Self don’t believe the whole Lion Air Group will survive the pandemic. The detoritation of the company has already been initiated before even the pandemic was known as both management and senior staf are completely elitrated to run an airline where it is a common daily exercises to sbuse their passengers rather to nurish them as a valuable client. The numerous youtube regarding flight delays are self explanatory. Not to-mention that presently the mahority of lessors are reconsidering to withdraw their aircrafts of which at least 29 boeing 737-900 are re allocated to a US carrier
