Hilton raises hygiene standards in partnership with Lysol and Mayo Clinic

For the first time in the hospitality industry, the Hilton hotel chain will collaborate with RB, manufacturer of Lysol, and will consult with the Mayo Clinic to develop elevated processes and team member training to help guests enjoy an even cleaner stay. and safe.

The program, to be called “Hilton CleanStay with Lysol Protection” in North America, will be a rigorous system that will incorporate RB’s trusted scientific knowledge and approach to cleaning practices and product offerings. Experts from the Mayo Clinic Infection Prevention and Control team will advise and help power Hilton’s cleaning and disinfection protocols.

Hilton CleanStay will build on the already high standards of cleanliness and hygiene at all Hilton properties globally, where hospital-grade cleaning products and up-to-date protocols are currently used. Hilton CleanStay’s goal is to provide guests with security and peace of mind when staying at any of the more than 6,100 Hilton properties, representing 18 brands. The initiative will convey a total focus on cleanliness that will be visible to guests throughout their stay – in their rooms, restaurants, fitness rooms and other public spaces.

Hilton CleanStay was developed to meet the changing needs of consumers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Studies indicate that consumers are more concerned with hygiene during their travels, and confidence in cleanliness standards will be essential to resume travel in the future.

“Hilton CleanStay joins the best practices and protocols that we have developed over the past few months, allowing our guests to rest easy with us and just focus on enjoying the unforgettable experiences we have to offer, while protecting members of our team, who are at the forefront of providing the best hospitality, ”said Christopher J. Nassetta, Hilton President and CEO.

RB will bring key talent and Lysol experts in hygiene and disinfection to this multi-year partnership with Hilton, which will leverage more than 130 years of scientific research to support product awareness, training, education and delivery. and systems. RB and Hilton are also exploring opportunities to expand the program into a global partnership.

“It is imperative that we protect all consumers, today and in the days ahead, as we all await new standards for returning to work and leisure activities,” said Rahul Kadyan, executive vice president of hygiene and home for RB North America.

For his part, The Mayo Clinic will apply its experience and knowledge to advise Hilton hotels on cleaning protocols, training programs and quality assurance.

“Personal safety is extremely critical as we reopen businesses and recreational activities around the world,” said Stacey Rizza, M.D., infectious disease specialist at the Mayo Clinic. “We are proud to contribute the experience and knowledge of the Mayo Clinic to the response to COVID-19 on a national and global scale.”

With the help of medical experts and technicians from the Mayo Clinic, Hilton is redesigning its cleaning protocols in order to transfer best practices in hospital hygiene standards to hotel rooms. Medical experts who are part of the Mayo Clinic’s COVID-19 response team will also advise on new technologies and approaches, assist with training issues, and create a rigorous quality assurance program.

While full details of the program are still under development, and are expected to be announced in June, the brand standards under consideration are:

Hilton CleanStay Room Stamp: Add an extra security measure by placing a seal on the room door to indicate to guests that no one has had access to your room after going through the rigorous cleaning process.

Deep cleaning of 10 high contact areas: Additional disinfection for the most frequently touched areas of the rooms: light switches, door handles, TV remote controls, thermostats and more.

Delete paper amenities: Remove ballpoint pen, paper notebooks and guest directory; implement digital options or keep amenities available at the request of the guest.

Focus on fitness centers: Improved cleaning guidelines in hotel gyms, see the possibility of closing the space to clean several times a day and limit the number of guests allowed at the same time.

Deep cleaning: Increase the frequency of cleaning in public areas.

Disinfectant towels and liquids: Placing disinfection stations at main entrances and key areas of high traffic, for example in the elevator guests will be invited to clean the button before pressing it.

Registration / “Check-In” without contact: Hilton will strengthen its award-winning Digital Key technology for guests who want a touchless arrival experience with team members. Guests can register, choose their room, access their room with a digital key, and “check out” using their mobile devices through the Hilton Honors mobile app. Hilton will continue to expand its digital key capabilities to common doors and access points in all hotels.

Innovative disinfection technologies: Hilton is exploring the incorporation of new technologies such as electrostatic sprayers, which use an electrostatically charged disinfecting mist, and ultraviolet light to disinfect surfaces and objects.

In addition to new cleaning and disinfection processes, hotel team members will receive enhanced personal protective equipment and training designed to protect their well-being while continuing to provide Hilton’s unmatched hospitality.
