Director General of Culture, Ministry of Education and Culture, Hilmar Farid admitted that his party had made a mistake by removing the founding figure of NU Hasyim Asy’ari from the History Dictionary of the Ministry of Education and Culture. However, Hilmar admitted that it was done accidentally.
“I admit that this was a mistake. But it was due to negligence, not on purpose. That’s a point I want to emphasize,” Hilmar said in an online press conference, Tuesday (20/4).
According to him, there is no name of Hashim Ash’ari in Dictionary of Indonesian History Volume I published Kemendikbud is a risk of forgetfulness compiling the dictionary. Because he said, compiling a dictionary is not like writing a narrative.
The dictionary was compiled by entering entries or words so that Hashim Asy’ari’s zonder was purely due to an unintentional mistake. Hilmar therefore also denied that removing the name Hasyim Asy’ari was an attempt to influence historical education.
“So this is not like deliberately eliminating. Then deliberately installing for affected people. Absolutely not. I think that the narrative is wrong,” he said.
To fix this, he admitted that he had withdrawn the existence of the dictionary published in 2017 from circulation, including from the Kemendikbud’s Learning Center website. The dictionary has been included on the site since 2019.
“But now it has been dispatched. And in the library that has the potential, we will draw it, so far that can be done,” he said.
