The hijacked car carrier ship “Galaxy Leader” belongs to the British company “Ray Car Carriers”, the founder of which is Ungar.
The 189-meter-long and 32-meter-wide ship flies the flag of the Bahamas.
The ship was en route from Kerfez in Turkey to Pipavava in India.
The “Galaxy Leader” crew includes 25 people who are citizens of Bulgaria, the Philippines, Mexico and Ukraine, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said, adding that there are no Israeli citizens on board.
“The hijacking of a cargo ship by the Houthis near Yemen, in the southern Red Sea, is a very serious incident with global consequences,” the Israeli armed forces emphasized on the “X” communication platform.
It has already been reported that the Houthis threatened to attack ships linked to Israel on Tuesday.
The Houthis, who have declared themselves part of the so-called Axis of Resistance, which is made up of groups linked to Iran, have carried out a series of drone and missile strikes against Israel since the radical Palestinian group Hamas began attacking Israel in October.
