High-Stakes Competition: The Jauch-Gottschalk-Schöneberger Show Battles Fundraising Special for Young Viewers

“Because they don’t know what’s happening – The Jauch-Gottschalk-Schöneberger Show”RTL/Stefan Gregorowius

Two hour-long shows last Saturday evening were close together from a ratings perspective among young viewers. A fundraising special by “The Quiz Champion” for the German Cancer Aid ran on ZDF, which attracted an average of 470,000 viewers between the ages of 14 and 49 over three hours and recorded a strong 11.1 percent. A total of 3.04 million people saw the show, moderated by Johannes B. Kerner, which corresponded to 14.7 percent.

A new edition of the XXL show “Because they don’t know what’s happening” on RTL had 10,000 fewer target group viewers, i.e. 460,000. Due to the significantly longer running time – the show with Barbara Schöneberger, Günther Jauch and Thomas Gottschalk only ended at 12:50 a.m. – the market share of 12.4 percent was slightly higher than on ZDF. Overall, there were less than half as many people sitting in front of the screen: 1.40 million were identified, which was enough for 8.1 percent.

However, the day’s victory among young and old was secured by a large margin by the “Tagesschau” on the first: 5.55 million people aged three and over (28.2 percent), including 850,000 14 to 49 year olds (22.2 percent), took part at 8:00 p.m. The primetime thriller “The Protector” retained its market leadership among the overall audience and captivated 4.40 million (20.0 percent), while the younger audience received an equally good 8.5 percent. A repeat of the “Vienna crime thriller” “Blindly Determined” brought in 2.76 million and 14.1 percent at 9:45 p.m.

In Potter.1… Sorry, on Sat.1 what felt like the 1034th broadcast of “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” made for happy faces: with 430,000 advertising-relevant people and a very good 10.1 percent, you had to beat the competition from the show only narrowly beaten, with a total of 1.09 million people tuning in. However, the sci-fi film “I am Number Four” then fell back to a meager 5.4 percent. Things looked even worse at prime time for sister channel ProSieben, where the ranking show “The world is amazed by this – The weirdest Gaga stories” got stuck at a really bad 4.2 percent. At least 6.7 percent of the target group were later able to warm up to “The Weirdest Clips on the World Wide Web” from the series.

RTL Zwei also had a feature film success, with “American Pie 2” getting a whopping 7.9 percent of those sought. “Crazy for Mary” then generated 5.3 percent, which was also above the channel average. VOX clearly missed this for four hours, the XXL documentary “Sell at any price – The secrets of the super sellers” was completely lost with 2.4 percent. A rehash of “Navy CIS: LA,” which only managed 2.2 percent on Kabel Eins, had an even harder time. Two other episodes were also disappointing with ratings of 2.4 and 2.9 percent; it was only after 11 p.m. that a better 4.3 percent was recorded.
