The pictures of the disaster are staggering: In the US state Florida is a skyscraper collapsed near Miami Beach. Eyewitness photos show that the east wing of the 12-story building has collapsed completely.
The incident is said to have happened on Thursday night around 1:20 a.m. (local time). It is still unclear whether people were harmed in the collapse. According to US media reports, several people are said to be trapped in the building. According to its own information, the fire brigade is on site with more than 80 emergency services.

The collapsed skyscraper is one block of Champlain Towers South – one of three towers of the luxury oceanfront residential complex in Surfside. There are numerous condominiums in the Champlain Towers that also provide access to hot tubs and other amenities. Since the collapse occurred at 1:20 a.m. local time, most of the residents were in their homes. The entire complex rises on twelve floors. The building dates from the early 80s.
