High costs due to increasing population

Because more and more people are living in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district, new kindergartens have to be built and schools have to be expanded. That’s in the money.

Politicians are actually happy about the steadily increasing population. Shows an interest in wanting to live in a certain district or municipality, but a certain attractiveness of the living environment, the workplaces and the public facilities. That’s why people in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district are happy that last year for the first time more than 300,000 inhabitants were counted. Even if these new residents bring financial advantages in the form of income tax shares and flush money into the public coffers, there are also costs on the other side, as District Administrator Klaus Peter Schellhaas (SPD), the first district councilor Lutz Köhler (CDU) and social affairs department head Christel Sprößler (SPD) explained this newspaper.

Increasing population also means more children. Children need daycare places and later the corresponding capacities in the schools. This is where the district is currently under pressure.
