Here is the quality to have to live longer, according to Science

What if it was enough to take life on the bright side to live longer? In any case, this is what a study published in the Journal of Gerontology and relayed by SHE, which reveals that being optimistic would extend our life expectancy by a few years. This quality, which is far from being given to everyone, makes it possible to face the most distressing and stressful situations of daily life in a more peaceful way with more self-control. Optimists have this ability to succeed in minimizing their dose of stress, even going beyond it, and this is how they manage to preserve their health.

Many experts actually agree that there would be nothing better than a way of life centered around positivity to guard against certain evilssuch as cardiovascular disease, lung failure or premature mortality.

Optimism, the secret of youth?

To substantiate this theory that simply seeing life in pink would have an impact on life expectancy, researchers analyzed data provided by more than 200 veterans to a survey on the normative aging of veterans. For nearly 10 years, between 2002 and 2010, they had to fill in notebooks in order to transcribe their mood with regard to the distressing situations they had encountered.

This shows that older, more optimistic men had less “everyday stressors”. “This suggests that they would limit their exposure to stressful situations, or that they were less likely to perceive or label situations as stressful”explains the Dr Lewina Lee, in charge of this study. She also took the opportunity to share her technique to think more positively: “To be more positive, we can try to recognize our strengths, our past examples of success and the areas over which we have control, to become more confident.”
