Here are revealed the most convenient supermarkets to save on shopping up to 1,700 euros per year

Spending costs an average of € 6,853 per year to Italians, according to the latest ISTAT data: it is one of the items that weighs heavily on households’ pockets.

However, choosing the right stores can significantly lower these costs. Here are revealed the most convenient supermarkets to save on shopping up to 1,700 euros per year.

The essential tips for a cheaper shopping

Everyone wants to save money, but sometimes it’s really hard to find out how to do it. Among myriads of offers and brands, it is no longer clear what is really convenient. Fortunately, help comes from the annual survey on supermarket prices, carried out by Altroconsumo.

Here is the first piece of advice that emerges from the survey results: the choice of supermarket matters a lot. In fact, the experts compared the cheapest shop in Italy (the Familia Superstore in Rovigo) with the most expensive one. The difference in annual expenditure is 1,720 euros.

The second tip, on the other hand, emerges by comparing the quality-price ratio of the different products. The consumer association has in fact studied all the tests carried out to identify the best products.

It thus emerged that to save money you must not give up on quality: in fact, 45% of products with an economic price and good quality bear the brand of discount. When shopping, therefore, it is better not to look only at the most famous brands.

For instance, some consumers are unaware that bargain beers are among the best in the supermarket or that among the good quality toothpastes there is a really cheap one.

Most people tend to do a mixed shopping, that is, with branded products and cheap products. These purchases can be made either in supermarkets / hypermarkets, or in discount stores. The survey therefore compiled two different rankings for the two categories of shops.

As for supermarkets, the cheapest is Familia Superstore, followed by Familia, Conad Superstore, Conad, Coop and Interspar.

Among the discounters, however, the Eurospin stands out. The ranking continues with In’s Mercato, MD, Aldi, Lidl and Prix Discount.

Finally, the situation is different for consumers who do not do a mixed shopping, but avoid the products of the leading brands. In this case, the cheapest store is Aldi, which ranks first for the third year in a row. In second and third place we find Eurospin and Prix Discount.
