So, as we had anticipated, Iachini was and remains the coach of Fiorentina by the express and firm will of Rocco Commisso in person personally.
The question now is another: how much longer?
And here the matter becomes complex. It is clear that if Fiorentina were to lose the coach’s farewell to Udinese next Sunday it would become automatic, almost obligatory. In all other cases Rocco intends to go on with “his” Beppe hoping to reach the end of the season and therefore of the contract.
But why?
Rocco’s speech is of absolute practicality and the reasoning of impeccable pragmatism. I try to summarize: the purple president continues to argue that this team with Iachini or without Iachini is not yet ready to decisively attack the Europa League area, there is still a lot of work to be done, the company also needs another year of growth, it is confident that Iachini can take the situation back in hand and in any case finish twelfth (in the worst case scenario) or eighth would change very little.
In essence, this is more or less what the president thought at the time of Iachini’s confirmation. His hope is always that of being able to have a normal season, perhaps with one more step than last year’s tenth place.
But be careful, compared to this summer the situation is in absolute evolution and the outlook is changing. Rocco continues not to listen to his managers who would be for an immediate change of bench but he has finally understood the limits of this coach and now he knows very well that Fiorentina in the near or distant future will have to start from an important coach. The coach is the basis on which to build a project.
So, Rocco hopes not to have to intervene now, he doesn’t want to pay another coach, immediately fears he will have to take a ferryman, but again there is the hunt for a real coach.
And here we are in Sarri which, as we wrote about a fortnight ago, is the first goal for next season. Rocco says that his meeting with the former Juventus coach is fake news, but certainly intermediaries in the name and on behalf of Fiorentina have promised Sarri a future in the purple. There is also talk of a meeting with Joe Barone, but even here there are no confirmations.
In summary. Here are the strategies: if things return to an acceptable normality, if Fiorentina remains floating between the left and right sides of the table, if the performance becomes sufficient, Iachini is destined to do it all season. On the Sarri goal, in fact, but secondly also on other top-tier coaches (Spalletti and not only) we are working to plan a different future, for a new cycle of great Fiorentina. Finally, I would like to say.
The unknown of the present remains. Will Iachini be able to get the team back on its feet?
This is the big question. There are many doubts and in the event that the situation should precipitate, then, but only then, we would try to convince Sarri to immediately put on the suit.
It takes time. And the coach asked for time and we have already written it to you. Also for this reason Iachini has not been exempted and will be supported as much as possible.
Meanwhile, for Sarri there is a contract to be terminated with Juventus and even if the negotiations have been underway for days, we go from optimism to cold showers quickly. Then Sarri fears that taking a team in the running could be a wrong choice, he is reflecting. Last but not least, there are also other clubs such as Roma, but also Spanish and English more important than Fiorentina, who have tested the ground with Ramadani. That Sarri has Fiorentina in his head and heart has always been known, but today it is not so automatic to put the Figline coach on the purple bench. But also for the future Sarri with the intermediaries was clear: if he said ok, a very long contract, autonomy in technical choices and a top coaching engagement are needed, even if reduced for affection compared to the over six million perceived by Juve.
All that remains is to wait for the events and navigate on sight, the situation is complex due to the wrong choice in the summer: Iachini did not need to be reconfirmed. The first four races showed embarrassing errors and limits. The team does not seem in tune with the manager. The tactical ideas are confused until the identity acquired last year is lost. I’ll give you just one fact: last Sunday Fiorentina was the team that ran the least of all 20 in Serie A. What does it mean? That you play from a standing position, that there is no movement without the ball, that there is no chorus. Need anything else?
Iachini spoke to the team, Rocco will do it this week too, hopefully in at least a nervous reaction, but it won’t be easy.
From the inside we continue to underline the dissatisfaction of many players and especially of a leader like Ribery who expected a stronger team from the club, but also a different coach. There is human sympathy, but Iachini’s play-not-play does not appeal to the French champion. It is not cheap.
