American diplomat Henry Kissinger, former US Secretary of State, diagnosed that World War III is likely to occur within 5 to 10 years due to the confrontation between the United States and China, and ordered a pragmatic approach for coexistence.
“Both the US and China are convinced that the other is a strategic risk and are headed for a confrontation between the great powers,” Kissinger said in an interview with the British weekly magazine The Economist.
“We are in a classic pre-World War I situation, there is not much room for political concessions on either side, and anything that upsets the equilibrium could have disastrous consequences,” Kissinger said.
Former Secretary Kissinger served as national security adviser and secretary of state in the 1970s in the administrations of President Richard Nixon and successor President Gerald Ford.
