Henk Krol proposed to his friend Aldo on Sunday. In the last century, Krol was one of the driving forces behind the introduction of ‘same-sex marriage’, which was introduced in the Netherlands in April 2001.
The former editor-in-chief of the Gay Newspaper did this according to RTL Boulevard after he announced on NPO Radio 1 on Sunday morning that he would go down on his knees.
“I’m going to tell you a little secret. I’m still not married. And I’ve always said: if I ever quit politics and finally have more time for my home situation, I will also get married. So now that I have this with you. on the radio, I think I will get on my knees tomorrow morning and I will finally make the request if my Aldo will also marry me “, 70-year-old Krol said in the Sunday morning broadcast.
RTL Boulevard has contacted Krol from which it appears that he did indeed go down on his knees later in the day and that his friend Aldo said yes. They are “on the road for a day to celebrate”, according to presenter Lex Uiting.
Krol was one of the pioneers behind same-sex marriage
Krol spoke during the radio broadcast because it was twenty years ago on Thursday that the marriage was opened to gay couples. Krol was one of the pioneers who fought for the introduction of ‘same-sex marriage’ in the 1980s and 1990s.
Partly thanks to his lobby, the coalition agreement of the second Purple cabinet stated that same-sex partners should also be able to marry. The Netherlands was the first country in the world where this became possible for homosexuals. There are now thirty countries where same-sex couples can say yes.
Krol was the figurehead of 50PLUS for a long time, but left the party in May last year and founded the List Henk Krol (LHK). He and his party did not get enough votes to stay in the House of Representatives.
