The Canarian Institute of Hemodonation and Hemotherapy (ICHH), dependent on the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islandshas launched this week an urgent notice to the population so that they go to donate blood before going on vacation, an appeal that seeks to maintain the stock of blood products in the most critical period of the year, the summer.
At this time, donations from all blood groups are needed. In addition, there is an urgent need to increase platelet reserves, which are used in different hospital procedures such as the treatment of haematological, oncological, leukemia patients or in certain transplants, and have the particularity that they expire in just 7 days, so ongoing and frequent donations are needed to maintain the stock.
Donation Protocol
To donate blood you can go directly or you can request an appointment by calling 012 or 922 470 012 / 928 301 012 (option 8), Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. or by filling in the form published on the cover of the web effect donacion.com. The ICHH reminds that people vaccinated against COVID-19, with both one and two doses and the booster dose, can donate blood after 48 hours of inoculation.
Donation points operational on the weekend
This weekend it will be possible to donate blood without an appointment in Tenerife, Gran Canaria and La Palma.
In Tenerife, you can donate on Saturday at the Hospital Universitario de Nuestra Señora de Candelaria from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and at the Hospital Universitario de Canarias from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. . In this last hospital center you can also donate on Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
In addition, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife fixed point, located at calle Méndez Núñez, number 14, and the San Isidro Health Center, in Granadilla de Abona, will also be operational tomorrow, Saturday, July 30, from 9:15 a.m. at 2:00 p.m.
A mobile blood donation unit will also be operational in the Plaza de la Patrona de Candelaria, on the occasion of the celebration of the Craft Fair, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
As for Gran Canaria, tomorrow Saturday it will be possible to donate at the capital’s fixed point on Calle Alfonso XIII, number 4, from 9:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. and at the Alcampo Shopping Center in Telde from 9:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. 45 and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.
Finally, at the University Hospital of La Palma you can donate both on Saturday and Sunday between 10:00 and 20:00.
Donation points operational next week
The first week of August, the ICHH will have temporary donation points in operation in the municipalities of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Arucas, Telde, La Laguna, Icod de los Vinos, La Oliva, San Bartolomé and Arrecife.
These temporary spaces are added to the fixed points of the Canarian Transfusional Network in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, La Laguna, Granadilla de Abona, La Orotava, Puerto del Rosario, Arrecife, Valverde, San Sebastian from La Gomera and Breña Alta.

The mobile blood donation unit will be next week in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, in the central Plaza de la Catedral, on Obispo Rey Redondo street. The schedule will be Monday from 10:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., Tuesday to Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. 12:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Next week, La Oliva will host a blood donation team at the North Fuerteventura Senior Center located at Calle Milagrosa, number 49, in Corralejo, which will attend donors on Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday to Thursday from 5:00 p.m. :00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
