The Food Bank Foundation calls for solidarity at a time when the number of people who need help to survive is increasing every day. There are many residents of Jaen who live in a situation of poverty, others who work but their paychecks do not allow them to pay electricity bills or face the expenses derived from the mortgage and, ultimately, people of all ages who are, in silence, socially excluded. Demand seems to be stabilized, especially after the rise experienced last year due to the economic slowdown caused by the pandemic. The objective of the campaign undertaken by the group, which began on Friday in supermarkets and large stores, aims to reach at least the amount collected in the run-up to last Christmas, 220,000 kilos to meet the basic food needs of more than 20,000 jiennenses. Circumstances require prevention rather than cure, and in this sense the Food Bank will continue with the methods chosen in the previous collection to avoid contacts that may lead to unwanted infections. In this way, donations will be made, through the purchase receipt, in such a way that the money collected is converted into kilos of products that can be chosen depending on the demand at each moment. It is time to pitch in, to help as much as possible to those who are truly having a hard time, because no one can feel oblivious to a reality that can touch us all at some point in our lives. Generosity is much more than a gesture, it is a necessity in times when it is difficult to overcome.
