Some usually play in front of thousands of spectators, others in front of a few hundred. And yet SC Bern (ice hockey) and HV Herzogenbuchsee (women’s handball) benefit from the same offer. The Grand Council decided that the canton of Bern would assume the solidarity guarantee when sports clubs draw federal loans. This affects 19 professional or semi-professional clubs in Bern from the fields of football, ice hockey, floorball and handball.
Most of the clubs have long since made provisions, so the gift from the Bern Parliament comes too late. Marc Lüthi, Managing Director at SC Bern, is as pointed out as usual: “We don’t need the canton’s solidarity guarantee. We applied for loans, but found another solution. ” A solution that in the best case scenario one does not even have to fall back on with the ice hockey club, because: “It is currently still unclear whether we will ultimately need the loans. But you can always cancel. “
