NS Euboea’s blaze continues to spread, and three evacuated villages are engulfed in flames, FOCUS reported, adding that authorities on Sunday ordered an additional evacuation of the island.
The fire reached the villages of Galatsona, Helinika and Agriovotano, and the inhabitants of Gouves, Artemisio, Castri, Vuliki and Pefki were called to evacuate through the European emergency communication system 112. The inhabitants were advised to turn to Istia. Many of the evacuees were taken on ferries.
At 02:00 on Sunday, firefighters – assisted by colleagues from other countries – began efforts to put out the flames in Vasilika.

Roads, meanwhile, remain impassable in many places – either because of the fire or because they are too narrow. Numerous fallen trees and power poles have been reported to block routes.
