Game Director Defends Helldivers 2 Balance Patch Amidst Railgun Complaints
Game director Johan Pilestedt has responded to criticism regarding the most recent balance patch for Helldivers 2. In question is the impact of this update on the RS-422 railgun, a favored weapon for its exceptional ability to dismantle armored enemies, particularly the daunting Chargers. The patch introduced modifications that prevent the railgun from penetrating heavy armor while in Safe mode, a cautionary measure to avert self-inflicted harm. The railgun still performs effectively against armored foes in its Unsafe mode, but this approach exposes the user to the risk of catastrophic consequences. The update also reduced the railgun’s damage against sturdy enemy parts.
Pilestedt’s Response and Descriptions
Responding to a fan’s demand for the railgun to be “fixed,” Pilestedt promptly stated, “We did,” accompanied by a ‘melting face’ emoji. He clarified by stating, “But 4 real though, the rail gun in unsafe mode didn’t change the capabilities of it as it should. The [armor penetration] of it was insanely tweaked and now goes from good to goat. Like it was always intended to be – a risk/reward weapon for high tier play. Like a sniper rifle on crack but with the risk of killing the user.”
To provide further clarity, Pilestedt highlighted that one must charge the railgun to its explosive limit to achieve maximum armor penetration, resulting in reports indicating that the new iteration might not be as potent as its pre-nerf counterpart.
