A powerful hurricane hit the Turkish capital. One of the locals died as a result of the bad weather. This was announced by the Ministry of Interior of Turkey.
The hurricane raged in Ankara for several hours on Saturday, June 11. People started taking pictures of flooded streets and posting them on social media.
According to city officials, the Gelbashi, Chankaya, Enimahale, Kechioren and Mamak districts were hardest hit by the hurricane. In just an hour and a half, 28 millimeters of rain fell in Ankara. In the Altindag area, a driver could not get out of a minibus because muddy streams completely flooded the road in a matter of minutes. As a result, the man died.
“The lifeless body of a citizen caught in a flood in Ankara has been found,” said Turkish Interior Ministry spokesman Ismail Chatakli. His words are quoted by Ahaber.
The hurricane damaged about 40 buildings in the city. In some areas, locals were left without electricity.
“More than 3,000 public service workers and more than 1,200 pieces of equipment have been taken out on the city’s streets,” Ankara Mayor Mansur Yavash said on social media.
According to the weather forecast, the rains in the Turkish capital will continue in the coming days.
