Ecuadorian singer Helado Negro’s eighth studio album has just been released – it’s called “Phasor”. This edition could be especially interesting for the listeners on our side, because the musician went on a concert tour to promote it, within the framework of which he will also perform in the “Cēsis” Concert Hall on March 1.
Helado Negro, real name Roberto Carlos Lange, is a very important figure on the American music scene. Born in Florida, the descendant of Ecuadorian immigrants currently lives in Brooklyn, but frequently references both his teenage years and his Ecuadorian roots in his music.
In his compositions, the musician freely switches from English to Spanish, which the listeners, enchanted by his melodies, often notice only after several bars. “His music is life-affirming, direct and full of subtle, almost whispered hints. It is rich in atmospheric and dreamy impressions,” is how the concert organizers describe this musician. It should be noted that the album “Phasor” was called “invigorating and heartfelt avant-pop” by the music magazine “Uncut”, and the songs included in it are “the most infectiously joyful to date”.
