It was not mistaken who thought of a big presentation for the costume of 50 years of Crazy Devils. Everything turned out as imagined (even better) and the presentation of the fantasy chronicle dazzled the audience. A splendid poster and a crowded plaza did the rest. The emotion was present throughout the evening.
Los Joroperos opened, the first guests to an unforgettable day and which already invited memories with the projection of a video alluding to the Murga’s golden anniversary.
One of the most special moments was the participation in the birthday of Los Bambones, “rivals and friends”, and whose presence was essential because the duel between those of El Cardonal and the Devils has marked an era. Those of Primi sang only parades and farewell – they had had their presentation the night before – and woke up to the unanimous applause of the attendees. The healthy spike between the directors of both schools responds to a well-understood rivalry and exemplary camaraderie. On a night like this, Masi wanted to remember that Los Bambones have reached the top in the chicharrero contest and that nobody has given them anything.
Next, the Devils wanted to pay tribute to their first director (Domingo Santos) and to the members of the time. They received one of the most deserved applauses of the night and confessed that their great prize is that the murga is still alive five decades later.
Los Chancletas followed, choosing to ‘park’ soon the aftermath of a derby that Las Palmas was badly hurt (0-0 at home) and thanked “how well they are treated” every time they come to Tenerife. The night was ‘in crescendo’ with another touch of nostalgia and the meeting – so many years later – of the group Producto Interior by Víctor Asensio. They sang up to three songs from their repertoire of the time in the prelude to the most anticipated moment: the presentation of the 2020 tronic costume.
Tomy Carvajal -the director who takes over this year- had already warned that they could qualify for a podium in disguise. But no one could imagine such a fantasy of Devils and so worked. In fact, in the pools, many already predict a close duel with Rompers for the First. They were presented by Manón Marichal -as is the custom- and the applause was thunderous: “Devil with a clown’s heart” is the title for a carnival outfit that will be accompanied by four tronic themes. In this sense, Masi wanted to make special mention of his right-hand man and great lyricist of the history of the murga, Víctor Asensio, “who has written more than 100 songs” for them.
But there would be even more emotions, since the director of the future wanted to stage the relay in the baton with a recognition of his father Masi, alma mater of the best Devils in history. The Carvajal saga and the murga are in good hands. It was a golden culmination to a special night. And now, to the contest.
