An earthquake has again shaken the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico, which has been hit repeatedly by severe earthquakes. The magnitude of the quake on Saturday was 5.4, according to the Puerto Rican earthquake agency.
The center was near the southeastern town of Guayanilla. While residents had been waiting for it, the earthquake agency did not issue a tsunami warning for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. There were initially no reports of injuries either.

However, photos showed serious damage from cracks in the wall to fallen rubble and collapsed houses, especially in the area of the city of Ponce in the south of the island, where the quake tore residents out of sleep. Puerto Rico’s governor Wanda Vázquez said that search and rescue teams have been activated in the most affected areas in the south.

It was only in January that there was a 6.4 magnitude quake as part of a series of earthquakes, which is why many, including historical, buildings and museums were still being repaired, according to the newspaper “Primera Hora”. Puerto Rico is also still struggling with the aftermath of severe hurricane «Maria», which devastated the US outside area in 2017. Large parts of the infrastructure of the Caribbean island had been destroyed at the time.
