heavily contaminated dentists?

Through their practice, caregivers are highly exposed to Covid-19. Nurses, doctors, nursing aides, gerontologists… and dental surgeons.

But in what proportion? According to the Regional Union of Health Professions (URPS) Auvergne Rhône-Alpes (AuRA), this profession is twice as contaminated by SARS-CoV-2 compared to the average of the French.

To support this risk, the URPS conducted the survey between December 1 and 15, with 4,500 dental surgeons in Auvergne Rhône-Alpes. In this region, “the proportion of practitioners contaminated by Covid-19 reached 9.77% against 5.53% nationally”.

A phenomenon reported in particular in “areas with high population density”. Thus, the Rhône-Alpes region has 10.07% of professionals affected by Covid-19, against 5.59% in Auvergne.

The departments most affected are Savoie, Rhône, Haute-Savoie and Ardèche. Then come Ain, Isère, Drôme and Haute-Loire. The most spared? The Loire, the Puy-de-Dôme, the Allier and the Cantal.

Dentists are not the only ones affected by this exposure to Covid-19. Among cabinet staff (assistants, secretaries, etc.), “the contamination rate there thus reaches 16%, with many cases recorded in October (38%) and November (29%)”.
