“Heat wave”: over 24 degrees in Switzerland

PWhen the weather is known for its cold, February began with unusually mild temperatures in Switzerland. Records were broken on Monday at some measurement stations.

The temperatures were already exceptionally high on Sunday. MeteoSwiss then spoke on its blog of a “heat wave” in winter. The Plateau woke up on Monday with temperatures between 11 and 13 degrees. In Lucerne, the thermometer went up to 13.3 degrees. The daily minimum in Lucerne is usually minus 2 degrees and the average temperature is 1.4 degrees.

Meteonews reported 24.1 degrees Monday in Biasca, Ticino. At Grono, in the canton of Graubünden 23.9 degrees were recorded, which constitutes a new record for the three winter months since the start of the measurements in 1971. In French-speaking Switzerland, it was 16.9 degrees at Sion , 16.4 in Vevey (Vaud) and 16.1 in Geneva.
