Heat advisory: dangerous heat and humidity this Wednesday in New York and New Jersey | Univision 41 New York WXTV

NEW YORKA heat notice to much of the tri-state area this Wednesday.

A combination of 90 degree temperatures and high humidity they will cause dangerous conditions that will prevail for the next few days.

Temperatures are expected to sit between 95 and 99 degrees for the next two days.

The warning is in effect throughout New York City and northern New Jersey.

Follow these tips to protect yourself from extreme heat:

  • Keep up with family and friends, especially the elderly.
  • Increase the time you spend in an environment with air conditioning.
  • Drink fluids, especially water. Avoid drinks that contain alcohol.
  • Take cold baths.
  • People who are especially exposed, such as the elderly or those with chronic diseases, should refrain from physical activities, avoid being alone, keep the sleeping area well ventilated, and avoid falling asleep in a hot room.
  • Eat light, but nutritious foods.
  • Avoid the sun in the hottest hours of the day.
  • Wear a hat and light, loose-fitting clothing.

If you work outdoors:

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shady or air-conditioned environments.

Anyone who is affected by heat should be moved to a cool, shady place. Heatstroke is an emergency. In case of heat stroke, call 911.
