Hearing-impaired children give a concert – hamburg.de

Hanover (dpa / lni) – making music without a functioning ear – that’s hard to imagine. But twelve children with hearing prostheses impressed the audience in the NDR concert hall in Hanover on Tuesday evening with their musical ability. Within one school year they managed to learn a completely new instrument, to feel and understand the music. At the end, the nine to eleven-year-olds, who are severely hearing impaired, stood on stage together with professional musicians from the NDR Radio Philharmonic.

This was made possible by the scientifically supported project “From silence to sound”. According to the initiators of “Aktion Kindertraum”, it is intended to help hearing-impaired children in their musical development. In addition to their normal lessons, the children received intensive and individually adapted violin and piano lessons. They all wear a hearing prosthesis and can at least hear dull noises with it.

Elena Kondrashova came up with the idea for the project and taught the children. “I had a muse, that was my sister,” said the musician. Her sister also has a hearing impairment. She was Kondraschova’s first student and awakened in her the desire to enable people with disabilities to make music.

With her idea, she turned to the aid organization “Aktion Kindertraum”, which grants wishes to children and young people nationwide who have suffered a serious illness or stroke of fate. Music producer, DJ and composer Mousse T. and concert pianist Sebastian Knauer were also involved.

The concert by the young music enthusiasts touched the audience. The children played classical pieces. For the finale, they offered the “Ode to Joy” together. Eleven-year-old Antonio enthralled everyone with a song he composed himself, in which he sang about his experiences in music lessons.

On July 24 (3:15 p.m.), NDR shows the development of the project in the documentary “Hearing with the body – How deaf children learn an instrument”.
