The government is ready to quickly discuss easing health restrictions. Thanks to a prolonged drop in hospital pressure and the number of contaminations, the government spokesperson said on Sunday “that there is a reflection on how we can adapt the rules, namely the health pass, perhaps others, to the local situation and to the evolution of the local situation ”.
Arguing that “we see the situation improving”, Gabriel Attal said on BFM-TV “that there will be a Defense Council soon to work on this. Probably next Wednesday ”. Highlighting a “very low” incidence rate in around thirty departments, with less than 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, the spokesperson questioned the possibility of adapting the restrictions according to this indicator. This could result in a lifting of the health pass obligation in certain places in a short timeframe.
Emmanuel Macron had already mentioned Thursday a reflection on easing restrictions, while being cautious. “As soon as the sanitary conditions allow it and, in my opinion, when I see the figures, it will not come so late”, we will be able to “allow ourselves, in the territories where the virus circulates less quickly, to lift certain constraints and to live normally ”, promised the Head of State.
“Too early to relax the measures”
The Minister of Health Olivier Véran also underlined Saturday in an interview with the Parisian that “we are clearly on the right track”, even if it is “too early to relax the measures”. Olivier Véran also pointed out the absence of emergence of “new more contagious and vaccine-resistant variants” this summer, enough to give the minister “hope” that the worst of the crisis has passed.
“If the situation continued to improve, we could gradually ease the restrictions, where the virus circulates the least first, then everywhere on the territory”, he hopes. “This relief could include the health pass,” said the Minister of Health.
The number of patients with Covid-19 and hospitalized continued to decline on Saturday, as did the positivity rate, while the threshold of 50 million first-time vaccines was crossed on Friday.
