Health: gradual decline in the incidence of covid-19 in the DRC

The Minister of Public Health, Hygiene and Prevention, Dr Jean-Jacques Mbungani informed the government, during the Council of Ministers of July 16, of the gradual decrease in coronavirus contamination in the DRC estimated at 14.9% compared to to the previous week. The occupancy rate of beds for covid-19 patients in Kinshasa continues to decline gradually since the end of June.

Regarding vaccination, the government report said, the Minister of Public Health announced the next diversified allocations of vaccines including Pfizer, Sinovac and Johnson & Johnson’s. They will be carried out gradually within the framework of the Covax initiative of bilateral cooperation and the African Union.

For the Prime Minister, Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde, the gradual decrease in coronavirus contamination in the DRC is part of the effectiveness of the measures taken by the President of the Republic. They (editor’s note: the measures) will be renewed again for a period of fifteen days upon hearing the assessment with the Technical Response Committee.

It should be noted that vaccination against covid-19 has been suspended in the cities of Goma, Butembo and Beni (North Kivu) as well as in all the surrounding health zones, following the Astrazeneca vaccine stock-out since the 11th. July. The resumption of the campaign was conditioned by the receipt of other doses of vaccine expected within a month at the latest.
