WASHINGTON, DC .- Health officials warn of a new increase in COVID-19 cases that could begin this summer.
They say the new variants could keep COVID circulation at high levels for months to come, possibly into winter.
The CDC says the new variants accounted for up to 7% of new infections in the country as of the end of May.
A Columbia University professor says many people will get sick in the coming months if there are no improved vaccines or boosters.
