Emmanuel Macron devoted this Tuesday in Cherbourg (Manche) the first field trip of his second five-year term to access to emergency care, one of his priorities. The health sector is indeed facing a real crisis, with congested hospitals and growing medical deserts.
According to information from Figaro and you Parisian, the Head of State will thus announce the launch of a month-long “flash mission” to find solutions to this crisis. This mission will be led by François Braun, the president of Samu-Urgences de France and head of center at the CHR of Metz-Thionville.
Emmanuel Macron spoke during this trip with “all health actors” (emergency physicians, nurses, general practitioners, administration) “about access to urgent and unscheduled care”, both “in hospital emergencies and in medicine of town”, had specified the Elysée.
Red lights
All the lights are indeed red in the emergency services, already strongly tested for two years by the Covid-19 pandemic, due to the shortage of caregivers. Night closings, “load shedding” on other hospitals, access filtered by the Samu: at least 120 emergency services have been forced to limit their activity or are preparing for it, alerted the Samu-Urgences association on May 20. of France (SUdF).
In total, almost 20% of the approximately 620 establishments, public and private, hosting one or more emergency services are affected. Additional sign of an unprecedented crisis, 14 of the 32 largest French hospitals (CHU and CHR) are on this list. In Cherbourg, unless there is a vital emergency, only a prior call to 15 can allow admission at certain times.
Throughout the territory, access to city care is also becoming increasingly difficult due to a lack of doctors and the saturation of nursing homes. The executive therefore intends to emphasize a “recruitment and retention plan in all sectors” of health.
