The Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance published this Friday, April 8, in the Diario de Centro América, the seventh addendum to the National Vaccination Plan against Covid-19 in which it authorizes the fourth dose of vaccine for health personnel, over 50 years of age and 12 years of age and older with chronic diseases.
In a press release from the Ministry of Health, it is mentioned that with the publication of the addendum, the administration of the fourth dose of the vaccine against coronavirus in guatemala for these groups of people.

It includes all health personnel, people aged 50 and over without exceptions, and minors aged 12 and over who have chronic diseases or immunosuppression.
“These actions are implemented with the aim of ensuring the protection of population sectors considered to be groups with greater vulnerability to covid-19 disease,” the statement read.

According to the statement, the Immunization Program of the Ministry of Health selected these prioritized groups according to international scientific evidence endorsed by leading health authorities, who affirm that a fourth dose of this vaccine is effective in maintaining protection against serious disease.
In addition, because “it has been shown that its benefits are mainly in all those groups in which their immunity may have decreased over time due to some risk factor or medical condition,” it is mentioned.
Health also mentions that it continues its work of reviewing, analyzing and updating the vaccination guidelines against the coronavirus to minimize its impact on the population and seek a return to the new normality.
Time to apply the fourth dose
The document mentions that in order to receive the fourth dose of the covid-19 vaccine, people must verify that at least 4 months have elapsed since their last dose and they must correspond to one of the aforementioned prioritized groups.
People included in these groups must carry their DPI, if they are over 18 years of age, and minors must have their CUI number and be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, who must carry DPI.
“In cases in which the person has a dose administered abroad, they must previously register according to the guidelines already established, through the website www.vacuna.gob.gt or present the original vaccination certificate to any immunization post authorized by the Ministry of Health”, the statement concludes.
