The hockey players of Slovan Bratislava will be strengthened by the attackers Brian Ihnačák and Martin Belluš at the upcoming Spengler Cup (December 26-31). The club informed about it on its Facebook profile.

“Despite the short time, we approached several mostly Slovak hockey players operating in Europe. Unfortunately, in the vast majority of cases, we received a negative opinion from their clubs,” said Slovana general manager Maroš Krajči.

“Everywhere in Europe important and attractive league matches are played during the holidays. We have three injured strikers (Zigo, Matoušek, Fominych), we will play at least three matches against the top European teams, we will have to test PCR every day, with a high risk of a positive test. Brian and Martin will definitely help us a lot in this situation. “

The Italian representative Ihnačák recently ended his cooperation with HC ’05 Banská Bystrica, Belluš only terminated the contract with HC Košice on Thursday. Slovan previously announced that the club can also count on HC Lugano regular player Libor Hudáček at the Spengler Cup. However, the situation has become more complicated and it is uncertain whether the 31-year-old forward will strengthen the Bratislava club.

The management of the Spengler Cup invited the Bratislava team as a substitute after Ambri-Piotta and the selection of Canada withdrew from the event. Slovan has competed in the prestigious tournament four times in the past and won it in 1972, 1973 and 1974. “Belasí” will be presented in a group with the Finnish team KalPa Kuopio and Swedish Frölunda, in the second group will be played by home HC Davos, Sparta Prague and Výber Bern.
