In March there should be a hunting rest in the Wrzburger Stadtwald, so that the wild boars from the residential areas can return to the forest. Did the plan work?

There are always wild boars in residential areas in the city: in February this editorial team reported on the problems with wild boars in the residential area on Wrzburger Dallenberg and how to deal with them.
Jagdpchter Hans Drr was aware of the situation. “The animals are currently unable to find any food in the city forest because there are few acorns and beech nuts this year, which is why they are drawn to the fields and the gardens,” he said. According to the city, there should be a hunt in the city forest in March to lure the wild boar back. Hunting should continue during this time on the fields and meadows outside the forest.
Right approach?
Drr was skeptical about the approach, the animals ultimately still depend on food, and that was just rare in the city forest. Michael Hein, chairman of the Bavarian Hunting Association in Wrzburg, thought the approach was good at the beginning of February, but pleaded to be seen whether the measure would be useful.
Four months have passed since then. Are the wild boars back in the forest and have the city’s plan worked out? Upon request from the hunting guard Hans Drr, he informed that the topic of wild boars in the residential area has become calmer. “I haven’t had any problems with wild boar for a long time,” said Drr.
No complaints
Apparently the hunting rest had its effect. Local resident Werner Niederdraenk also reports that he has not noticed any wild boar in the past. “But they have boys at the moment and they probably won’t come to the residential areas,” he notes.
That does not mean that the topic has ended. As soon as driven hunt takes place in the fields again, the situation could look different. “In the meantime, the wild boars know that there are opportunities to evade in the residential areas and they will use them,” said Niederdraenk. However, he knows from town forester Karl-Georg Schnmller that a round table on the problem for residents and hunting lodgers is still planned to discuss possible further measures.
