Hauts-de-Seine high schools 2019 ranking: Toulouse-Lautrec at the head, Michelangelo on the podium

Michelangelo is the sector high school. An establishment nestled in the heart of the great complexes of Villeneuve-la-Garenne, on the edge of the Jean-Moulin and La Caravelle districts. The two colleges in the district are classified as priority education, the lycée itself in “city policy”, which allows it to benefit from additional resources.

And in the establishment, things are moving … In two years, it went from 43rd to 3rd place in our ranking of high schools, which takes into account all the general and professional high schools of the department.

Marie-Flore Borghese, the principal, arrived three years ago at the Lycée Michel-Ange. “There are no quick fixes for advancing students,” she says. All teachers receive ministry circulars and the latest education science studies. The theory is very good, after, the difference is what you put in place on the ground. “

So, with her assistant Claire Legendre, they take up the issue head on. Since the start of the 2017 school year, second year classes have been reduced: only 20 students. This makes it possible to fight against the great difficulties of these new high school students in written and oral expression.

At the moment, they are monopolized by a big project: orientation. “The students censor themselves. They clearly lack ambition. So you have to broaden their horizons, explains Claire Legendre. Their limit is the city, and sometimes only the neighborhood. “

“I tell the students that they don’t leave the room until they have put 10 different wishes on Parcoursup!” And I am with them on the application of the RATP to calculate the journey time and show them that studies in other municipalities are possible ”, describes Marie-Flore Borghese. The school has an agreement with Sciences-po Paris and the Paris-Dauphine university. One or two students are admitted each year.

Visits to the theater, museums and businesses

To get these students out of their world, half of whose parents are unemployed, the school also organizes outings to neighboring towns: theater, museums and company visits. The establishment has a plastic arts and cinema option and is teeming with educational projects.
