NS has fewer trains
The Dutch Railways have been running for months with fewer trains than intended. Since December, 49 older double-decker trains have stopped due to unusual vibrations. The rest of the rolling stock now absorbs this, which in practice leads to shorter trains.
And that problem will persist for a while, even now that passenger numbers are rising again. “At the moment we cannot anticipate when the trainsets will return to the timetable”, NS says. In total, the carrier has about 750 trainsets.
Arriva, which mainly operates train services outside the Randstad, has no rolling stock problems. “Almost everything is running,” said a spokesman. “All rush hour rides are also going back, or will be started these days.” The NS will also allow all rush hour trains to run again from tomorrow.
